The Music Ministry at the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist is made up of many talented volunteers who are committed to creating a solemn prayer environment and joyous worship experience through music.
A variety of styles are explored here, from the rich tradition of hymnody to the songs of contemporary composers, allowing the congregation to fully, actively, and conciously participate in the mass. United in Christ, we are called as a congregation to bring our voices and God given gifts to one another.
In the encyclical Laudato Si’ Pope Francis reminds us that “… Even living on little, we can live a lot, above all when we cultivate other pleasures and find satisfaction in fraternal encounters, in service, in developing their gifts, in music and art, in contact with nature, in prayer. ” (Cfr. LS.223)
Whether you sing or play an instrument, we invite you to contact our Director of Cathedral Music, Kristen Hoyt, to learn how you can best share your talents with the community on The Block of Mercy.
